THE PEOPLE HELPING TO DEFINE LISBON’S NEW CULTURAL SCENE

Last May I was asked to work with CNN for their Lifestyle & Art website – www.cnnstyle.com – The article was about the names and mostly the new blood, those who’re making the new era of art across Lisbon, it’s always hard, at least in my eyes to cover something that goes beyond Lisbon but, the main focus was Lisbon, due to the fact that at this moment it seems to have a new nickname, at least for a big amount of outsiders – “The New Berlin” – A lot of it it’s hard to relate with, still everyone who’s working in it, with the simple effort to make art in their perception, from art galleries to artists, we’re making it noticed outside our lines, and that’s something we should be proud of, and I don’t mean to be cocky right here, but in a place where art seems to only have a few names and a few galleries it’s crucial for us to have a bigger understanding that what’s going on around here. Makes me wonder, when the day arrives, where all those all time artists vanish…would we still have something to call art in our country?

Open your eyes people, let the new blood in, otherwise contemporary art will end up with mold written all over.

A huge thank you to Marta Cruz @ TARA Gallery and Frederico Mancellos @ TODOS
